World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development
Sustainable development relies on several key pillars which encompass human, social, political, economic, environmental, and cultural aspects. The pillars are of interest to all countries worldwide, which also experience the challenges and advancements together.
Cultural challenges are the most crucial as they can create cultural divisions within a society and between different societies, impacting economic, political, and environmental interests that call for consensus, dialogue, and comprehension.
This highlights the importance of focusing on the cultural sector and amplifying its influence on society and in shaping public policies and international collaborations, demonstrating that culture affects fundamental aspects of society, and that forming strong global connections necessitates recognizing diverse cultures and overcome cultural barriers to promote unity and consensus. Culture serves as both a tool and a positive influence in building strong bonds among nations.
Moreover, the significance of integrating cultural elements into development policies and plans cannot be overstated, as it aids in accomplishing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and bringing more social cohesion and consensus.
The ability of culture to bring about change also enhances social integration, resulting in sustainable development. Culture is essential for human advancement. It serves as a source of identity, innovation, and creativity due to the human heritage, values, and beliefs within it that contribute to improving communication and social interaction. Respecting cultural pluralism and diversity without underestimating other cultures promotes peaceful coexistence and cooperation for sustainable development.
Despite their cultural differences, all people listen and take in each other’s ideas and beliefs; mutual respect would lead to understanding, unity, and benefits for all, with economic gains and accomplishments being the collective outcome of everyone's efforts. The greater number of people who can attain unity and understanding, rather than using cultural distinctions as a basis for excluding others, will result in peaceful and tolerant societies.
Getting to know each other, communicating, and acknowledging each other would lessen the divide among various cultures and civilizations.
Ever since its establishment, the United Arab Emirates has been dedicated to encouraging love and peaceful coexistence, a principle that is upheld by Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the current President of the State, just as Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan did before him, to enhance the UAE's image as a model of political steadiness, balance, and valuing the variety of other cultures.
