Women and the Culture of Peace
Women play a vital role in fostering a culture of peace and strengthening human fraternity. She is the mother and the nurturer, the one who instills the noble values, morals, and humanitarian principles advocated by our Islamic faith as well as by other religions. Shaping the character of a righteous individual is a fundamental objective of education in our Emirati culture and in other cultures as well. Anyone who is not prepared to be upright and responsible within their own society and community will not be able to truly comprehend the value and significance of peace and human fraternity.
The role of women does not stop at social upbringing alone; it extends to her responsibilities as a teacher, a homemaker, and a businesswoman, as well as to her active participation in economic life and social development. Through these diverse roles, women put forward initiatives, ideas, and mechanisms that reinforce a culture of peace, which has become a central priority in building stable and cohesive societies. By virtue of her innate maternal nature, a woman is uniquely positioned to raise generations who believe in peace, human fraternity, and peaceful coexistence, particularly at a time when societies around the world are living in what has become a small world as a result of the accelerating pace of technological advancement and the widespread expansion of social media and modern communication platforms. Women also possess a strong capacity to build relationships and exercise positive influence; through these qualities, they help cultivate a culture of solidarity, compassion, and mutual respect. Social cohesion begins with women and the family, and women further demonstrate a deep commitment to volunteerism and humanitarian support in order to respond to and fulfill pressing human needs.
Women also participate in today’s world as diplomats and accomplished political leaders who work directly to advance the goals of their societies by fostering diplomatic relations that carry a positive and humanitarian impact among the countries in which they serve. Women often contribute by advocating for and advancing legislation that protects human rights and promotes mutual understanding, emphasizing the pursuit of broader, shared interests over narrower, limited ones, thereby helping to bridge differing viewpoints and foster consensus on contentious issues.
Women are always messengers of peace and reconciliation due to their perceptive vision rooted in the values and principles they have learned and been raised upon. Therefore, their participation in global peace negotiations will undoubtedly yield positive results, as they work to build trust between conflicting parties. Their role is also vital in peacekeeping operations, where women often have greater access to local communities. Indeed, their role is central and fundamental in building stable societies that support peace, enabling them to contribute to shaping a better world for future generations.
Women also play an important role in what is known in some countries as the post conflict phase, as they possess the ability to contribute to rebuilding societies by caring for the family, strengthening its social and economic standing, and empowering its members once again to continue their life journey.
Accordingly, the realization of a culture of peace and the establishment of the principles of human fraternity are fundamentally dependent upon women and their vital role in instilling values and fostering constructive relationships. Such an outcome can only be achieved through sustained attention to the preparation of women, the development of their character, and their empowerment both intellectually and professionally, enabling them to serve as mothers, educators, and leaders, and as key contributors to the attainment of social objectives that advance and reinforce the principles of peace and human fraternity.
