Peace and Nurturing the Young Generation
The subject of peace holds profound importance in establishing stability and security within societies. The question is: when will the world’s communities succeed in realizing peace and making it a fundamental cornerstone of coexistence and mutual understanding among human beings — all of whom are bound by a vital principle, the awareness that they are brothers in humanity?
Establishing the concept of peace in societies requires a clear vision that believes in the importance of peace for building a better future and achieving security and stability. How greatly today’s generations are in need of a social upbringing that instills in them the value of peace. This value reflects mutual understanding and respect, while overcoming all barriers that divide them.
It is important that family upbringing within the community and the educational process within the learning environment work together to establish a culture of peace, one that stems from the principle of human fraternity and constructive coexistence, which strengthens a person’s respect for their fellow human being. This should be reflected in behavior, methods of communication, and ways of dealing with others. At the same time, a shared awareness must be instilled among the younger generation that God Almighty created people and established them in communication and acquaintance, so that they may achieve a shared life that guarantees freedom, cooperation, and respect for all, while preserving human dignity.
Therefore, it is very important to accustom the younger generation to dialogue, provide opportunities that enable them to cooperate and exchange ideas, and reinforce positive interaction behaviors. This requires preparing them to adopt human values and ethics that enhance the strength of their intellectual development, enabling them to achieve the goals of sustainable development. Lasting peace is the foundation of development, just as sustainable peace requires sustainable development.
Promoting the principles of mercy, compassion, and respect is a fundamental basis for instilling human values that create closeness, unity, and affection among children. They grow up with these values, reflect them in their behavior, and adopt them as guiding principles throughout their educational and professional lives. The stories of nations and the transmission of their cultures are among the significant influences in shaping the principles of the young generation. Therefore, enriching children’s culture through stories and extracurricular activities provides them with promising opportunities to build experiences and skills among themselves, enriched with values, ethics, and knowledge.
Similarly, learning about the values of peace through stories and school curricula enables children to develop their skills in this area, which influences their behavior and prepares them in the future to understand diversity and recognize the necessity of mutual understanding.
From this perspective, education plays a decisive role in shaping children’s vision of human relations and social interaction, and in enabling them to benefit from each other’s experiences. In addition, both the family and teachers play a vital role in instilling the values and skills that are essential for preparing upright citizens capable of continuing the path of sustainable development.
