The Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy concludes the Women’s Blitz Chess Championship
The Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy concluded yesterday the eighth edition of the Women’s Blitz Chess Championship, held under the gracious patronage of Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak and under the directives of Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The tournament was held at the academy’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the Abu Dhabi Chess and Mind Games Club. It followed the Swiss system over nine rounds using blitz chess rules of three minutes per round and attracted more than 160 male and female players from diverse nationalities and age groups.
The competitions were officiated by a professional Emirati refereeing team, and the event was attended by several senior officials, board members, and partners. Through this edition, the academy reaffirmed its commitment to supporting chess at both the local and regional levels while building a sustainable platform that inspires future generations and promotes passion for sport and strategic thinking, further strengthening Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading hub for elite sports.
The championship featured wide participation across multiple categories including women, girls, boys of different age groups, and people of determination, reflecting the academy’s commitment to expanding participation, empowering youth, and strengthening family and community bonds in line with the goals of the “Year of the Family.”
In the women’s category, Mariya Gevorgyan won first place, followed by Ava Suleymanova in second and Wafiya Darwish Al Maamari in third. Other winners included Krishna Bhoomi Yasaswi, Anastasia Sevastianshuk, Shakhnoza Sabirova, Ruelyn Asido, Karthik Nishita, and Andrea Bhattacharya.
Special Emirati player awards were presented to Hala Jamal Amin as Best Emirati player under 18, Anoud Issa Mohammed as Best Emirati player under 16, Alia Saud Nasser Marzouq as Best Emirati player under 14, Sarah Al Ali as Best Emirati player under 12, Asina Gulizadeh as Best Emirati player under 10, and Al Mazoon Al Marzouqi as Best Emirati player under 8.
